This is a versatile, handmade, panama straw hat. The color is a rich red with a bold red, black and white trim, colors that are stylish in spring and fall as well as summer and suitable for casual or dressy occasions. Those in warmer climates will enjoy it all year round.
The hat base that I used is made of straw that was handwoven in Ecuador. The straw is referred to as Panama Straw because of its association with the building of the Panama Canal. Once I have the hat base, I steam it into shape and insert a hat size band that retains the size needed. Once that is done, the hat is trimmed.
